It is a relatively new village, which was recognized as a separate community in 1925, and today has become a major center of commercial and residential activity, due to its active inhabitants.
The village is located in the prefecture of Chania, and is built at the foothills of the White Mountains (Madares) at an altitude of 62m. . Two very beautiful rivers pass throughout the village.
Near Vryses were the ancient cities of Amphimalon and the ancient settlement of Philippos.
